JOINT AND DOUBLE
DEGREE PROGRAMS
Ilia State University implements joint and double degree programs at all three levels of higher education in cooperation with international partners.
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
- A joint bachelor’s program with San Diego State University (USA).
- Upon completion of the program, graduates receive a diploma from San Diego State University in addition to the diploma of Ilia State University.
- In addition to this joint program, Ilia State University also offers other English-language bachelor’s programs in engineering, including an ABET-accredited Computer Engineering program, while accreditation of three additional programs is planned for 2026.
Master of Business Administration / Master of Arts in Business
- A double degree master’s program with the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland (Austria).
- Graduates receive an MBA diploma from Ilia State University and an MA in Business from the University of Applied Sciences Burgenland.
- The program has been implemented since 2018 and has already produced more than 50 graduates.
Atmospheric and Near Space Sciences
- A double degree master’s program with Clermont Auvergne University (France) and Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (Germany).
- Graduates receive two diplomas: one from Ilia State University and one from either Clermont Auvergne University or Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.
- The program includes two semesters of study at a partner university and joint supervision of the master’s thesis.
- A joint Erasmus Mundus master’s program with the University of Tartu (Estonia) and the University of Glasgow (United Kingdom).
- Ilia State University is the only Georgian university with full partner status in Erasmus Mundus consortia, and since 2018 it has been awarding a diploma with a specialization in Caucasian Studies within this program.
- Upon completion of the program, graduates receive a joint diploma from the Universities of Glasgow and Tartu, along with the diploma of Ilia State University.
Lehmann-Haupt International Doctoral Program (LHIDP)
- The collaboration encompasses 9 double-degree doctoral programs delivered in partnership with the University of Göttingen (Germany).
- The programs include Philology, History, Political Science, Religious and Cultural Studies, Development Economics, Ecology, Chemical Biology, Physics and Cosmology. Within the framework of cotutelle joint supervision agreements, graduates receive two diplomas: one from Ilia State University and one from the University of Göttingen. The program is supported by the Volkswagen Foundation and the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia.
International Interdisciplinary Structured Doctoral Program “Democracy, Human Rights and Religion”
- A double degree doctoral collaboration with the University of Münster (Germany).
- Within the framework of the joint supervision (cotutelle) agreement, graduates receive two diplomas—from Ilia State University and the University of Münster.
- The program is supported by the Volkswagen Foundation and the Rustaveli Foundation.
European Master in Lexicography
- An Erasmus Mundus joint master’s program implemented in cooperation with 8 universities (Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany; University of Hildesheim, Germany; University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain; Roma Tre University, Italy; University of Lorraine, France; University of Minho in Braga, Portugal; Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Budapest, Hungary).
- Ilia State University joined the consortium in 2023.
Double Degree PhD in Ecology
- Double Degree PhD Program in Ecology in partnership with Ghent University (Belgium).
- Joint Supervision and double degree within the individual cotutelle agreement.
