Situated in Tbilisi, the vibrant capital of Georgia, ISU has been welcoming exchange students and staff from Europe and beyond for many years.
The International Relations Office (IRO) serves as the central administrative unit coordinating Erasmus+ exchanges and is the primary contact point for incoming students and staff from partner universities. On average, we host around 110 incoming exchanges each academic year.
Prerequisits:
- For implementing exchange program (Erasmus+ and partner universities), your home university must be a partner university of the Ilia State University. Please check the list of partner universities on our website.
- If your university does not offer exchange program with Ilia State University, we kindly ask you to contact relevant exchange coordinator at your home university to set up exchange agreement. They should then contact us directly at: iro@iliauni.edu.ge.
- Before submitting your application to Ilia State University, you have to be selected and nominated by your home university for an exchange. The requirements and application procedures are determined by your home university. Please contact the relevant coordinator at your home university for information and guidance.
Language requirements:
- To attend courses taught in English at Ilia State University, minimum English language requirement is B2 level. You have to submit proof of language proficiency as part of the application

!!! All documents must be issued or translated into English language.
At PhD level each incoming student is supervised by the relevant professor, depending on the research focus of the mobility. To find relevant host at Ilia State University, you can either directly contact professors (see the list here: https://faculty.iliauni.edu.ge/en/), or contact International Relations Office. To facilitate this process, please provide your CV and research plan.
Academic offer for exchange students:
- Incoming exchange students can take a number of English-taught courses across different faculties, as well as several courses offered in other languages like Russian, German, etc.
- To attend Georgian language courses, students should demonstrate B2 level Georgian language proficiency.
- All exchange students will have the possibility to learn Georgian language for 6 ECTS. The Practical Course of Georgian Language is available for Bachelor, Master and PhD students.
- Students should aim to complete 30 ECTS credits in one semester. One ECTS credit equals 25 hours of work, which includes both lectures and homework.
- Within one faculty, students can choose courses from several disciplines. Students are also welcome to choose some courses from other faculties, if they meet the requirements for these courses.
- Please note, that there may be changes in the course offers due to the fact that some of the courses are available in case of sufficient number of students applied.
Admission & Orientation:
- Once your application has been reviewed and approved, you will receive an acceptance letter and detailed information about the next steps from the International Relations Office via email.
- Acceptance letters are sent out from mid-January for the Spring Semester and from July for the Fall Semester.
- IRO will support you in finalizing your Learning Agreement and will facilitate communication with the relevant faculty coordinator. Course descriptions can be provided upon request.
- ISU organizes orientation sessions for incoming students — online before arrival and on campus during the first week of the semester.
- After your enrollment is completed, the IRO will provide you with your personal ARGUS credentials (ISU’s online academic administration platform) and your ISU email account, along with user instructions. Through the ARGUS platform, students can access the course catalogue and syllabi, view timetables, and choose their preferred courses.
Fees & Scholarships
- Erasmus+ exchange students do not pay tuition fees during their semester at Ilia State University. Usually, the students can receive scholarships from their home universities. The amount of Erasmus + monthly scholarships for incoming students to Georgia is defined as 700 EUR per month. Please consult relevant coordinator at your home university.
Accommodation & Living
- Ilia State University does not have a student dormitory, however, visiting students and staff can receive guidance and support from IRO in finding housing options according to their preferences.
- The prices for a furnished studio in a central area range from 400 to 500 EUR, while the prices for a shared apartment in a normal/peripheral area range from 200 to 400 EUR per month, depending on the number of roommates and area. Health Insurance:
- While not mandatory for incoming students at Ilia State University, we recommend having health insurance to ensure coverage during your stay in Georgia. If interested, the International Relations Office (IRO) can provide further information and guidance.

- IRO accepts staff mobility nominations from partner universities throughout the year without any deadlines, but no later than 1 month before the planned mobility.

Application:
- There is no deadline for staff mobility application. Nomination and application should be done no later than 1 month before the planned mobility.
- After receiving nomination from the partner university, staff can contact IRO at iro@iliauni.edu.ge to finalize mobility agreement, find host professor/unit and receive invitation letter.
For academic staff mobility for teaching (STA):
- Every incoming teaching mobility should be implemented under supervision of academic staff of Ilia State University relevant faculty. As a visiting staf, you should find a relevant host professor/teacher with whom you can determine academic content and dates of the mobility.
- To find relevant host at Ilia State University, you can either directly contact relevant professors (see the list here: https://faculty.iliauni.edu.ge/en/), or contact International Relations Office. To facilitate this process, please provide your CV, as well as information regarding proposed dates of the visit, lecture topics and teaching interests, aims and objectives of this visit.
- Once the host professor is found, IRO will be able to confirm your mobility by signing mobility agreement and issuing the Invitation letter.
- Further details on travel authorization, grant agreements and procedures should be agreed with the home institution.
For administrative staff mobility for training (STT):
- Administrative staff of partner universities can visit ISU as part of their individual mobility any time during the academic year.
- Individual mobility should be implemented at the relevant administrative unit at Ilia State University. To find relevant hosts, please refer to the list of administrative units of ISU here: https://offices.iliauni.edu.ge/en/
- IRO can also help you in finding relevant host unit at ISU. To facilitate this process, please provide your CV, as well as information regarding proposed dates of the visit, training/job shadowing interests and general objectives of this visit.
- Once the host unit is found, IRO will be able to confirm your mobility by signing mobility agreement and issuing the Invitation letter.
- Further details on travel authorization, grant agreements and procedures should be agreed with the home institution.

INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL “BLACK SEA AND CAUCASUS: DIVERSITY, CONFLICTS, AND NETWORKS”
June 29 to July 26, 2026
ILIAUNI International Summer School in BLACK SEA AND CAUCASUS: DIVERSITY, CONFLICTS, AND NETWORKS is designed to gather students from around the world for a fantastic international seasonal experience centered in Tbilisi, the main campus of Ilia State University, along with trips to regions of Georgia.
A 4-week ILIAUNI International Summer School runs from June 29 to July 26, 2026.
During the program, you will have an opportunity to learn or improve a foreign language of your choice (Georgian, Ukrainian, or Russian); engage with ILIAUNI recognized faculty selected from different fields of studies. The faculty will also include invited and guest of honor speakers and practitioners (Harvard University – the Davis Center, U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi, Georgia). You will gain new knowledge and expand your network of fellow students and faculty, and broaden your understanding of the Black Sea and the Caucasus Region countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova, Turkey, and Ukraine.
The summer school provides 6 European credits and includes two Bachelor level academic courses: Black Sea and Caucasus: Diversity, Conflicts and Networks (43 contact hours) and a language course of student’s choice (32 contact hours). The program offers an opportunity to choose to follow the language course in Georgian, Ukrainian, or Russian language with intensive practice and interaction with instructors and the local community.
The program includes cultural and social events including field trips to historical and cultural sites in Tbilisi and the different parts of Georgia as well.
Georgia is a country at the crossroads of the East and West, where Europe meets Asia. This is a place with unique and welcoming culture, ancient artistic and historic heritage, delightful cuisine and wine.
Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia and the great metropolis of Caucasus, with over 1 million population, is a truly fascinating, multi-cultural city where traditions meet modern lifestyle.

Iliauni International Staff Week 2026
Ilia State University, Georgia will be hosting a 6th International Staff Week during 8-12 June 2026.
ISU international staff week is open to administrative staff involved in planning, administration and support of international activities and aims at the exchange of experience and best practices from participating universities. Wide range of activities and sessions are focused on various aspects of international cooperation, such as exchange cooperation within Erasmus +, blended mobility, capacity building projects, research partnerships and consortia, COIL, etc.
ISU Staff Week programme will focus on the following topics among others:
- Planning and Managing International Student and Staff Mobility
- Assessing the Impact of Internationalization and Mobility
- Intercultural Competence and Effective Communication
- Funding Opportunities Beyond Erasmus+
- Supporting and Integrating International Students
- International Project Design and Management
- Internationalization of Research and Doctoral Education
- Internationalization at Home (IaH): Strategies and Practices
Additionally, the staff week program provides unique opportunity to explore Georgian culture, history, cuisine and traditions.
The language of the staff week is English.
The International Staff Week will have a 150€ fee that includes:

- Visit to Open Air Museum
- Day Trip and visit to monasteries
- Wine Tasting and lunch at the winery
- Transportation to above mentioned social event venues
Participants should cover their own travel and accommodation costs, together with some meals.
